Trichy: The 2025 wheelchair rally to raise awareness about the spinal cord injury was organized in Trichy on Friday. The month of September is observed annually as the month of awareness of spinal cord injuries. The Rally, organized by the Hamsa Rehabilitation Center, based in Trichy, was indicated by Dr. Suresh Venkita, medical director of the group, Kauvery Hospital. Survivors of spinal cord injuries, health professionals, students and family members carried banners that highlighted messages on safety, rehabilitation, accessibility and empowerment. “The spinal cord injury is not the end of life. With adequate medical care, rehabilitation and community support, survivors can lead significant and productive lives. Consciousness is the first step for prevention and inclusion.” Sureesh said. The organizers said that the demonstration aimed to break the myths around disability, advocate for road safety and encourage society to create barriers free environments for people with spinal cord injuries.
