Hyderabad: Ahead of the Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara, which is expected to attract millions of devotees, the health department has set up a 50-bed hospital at Medaram, supported by two mini hospitals and 30 medical camps at the jatara site.The 50-bed main hospital, Sri Sammakka Saralamma Vaidya Shala, was established at TTD Kalyana Mandapam in Medaram. The facility is supported by two six-bed mini hospitals at high footfall locations, Jampanna Vagu and English Medium School. In addition, 30 peripheral medical camps were established within the jatara facilities. The officials informed the minister that three camps – at gaddelu (shrines), Jampanna Vagu and RTC bus stand – were already operational, in view of the early arrival of devotees.Additionally, 42 medical camps have been established along eight main routes leading to Medaram. These include nine camps on the Hanamkonda-Medaram route, six each on the Kataram-Bhupalpally-Kalvapalli and Chhattisgarh-Medaram routes, five on the Bhadrachalam-Medaram and Bhupalpally-Medaram routes, four each on the Gundala-Kothagudem-Medaram and Gandhi Nagar X Road-Medaram routes, and three on the Kondai-Medaram route.Additionally, 3,199 medical personnel, including 544 doctors, along with 2,150 paramedics and 35 ambulances were deployed for emergency response. Mulugu GGH and MGM Hospital, Warangal, were designated referral centers and put on high alert.Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha on Saturday reviewed the preparedness in a video conference with officials and directed them to adopt a “zero-engagement” approach towards the health and safety of pilgrims. He asked director public health Dr Ravinder Naik to visit Medaram immediately and conduct a ground inspection to ensure that all arrangements were in place before the jatara.
