UDUPI: Under the Seva Sethu initiative, whose objective is to address the criticism of medical care in the constituency of the Byndoor assembly, the work is in progress in Seva Dham, a center for rehabilitation of injuries to the dedicated spinal cord injuries.Byndoor Mla Gururaj Gantihole told Toi that the center is the second important project under Seva Sethu, launched last year as part of the widest mission of Samruddha Byndoor, an initiative focused on developing the constituency through public-private collaboration. In association with the NGO Seva Bharati of Kanyadi in Belthangady, a building of the Government’s lower elementary school in Henaberu, delivered by the Block Education Office, is becoming the rehabilitation center. The decision to resume this project was based on a local survey that highlighted the need for specialized care. The geography of Byndoor, with its dense forests and rural land, often limits access to emergency and specialty medical care. In addition, due to the strong dependence of the agriculture region, cases of column lesions caused by the fall of the trees are remarkably high. The survey identified at least 48 patients in urgent need for rehabilitation services, he said.Seva Dham will provide these people not only medical support, but also an opportunity for recovery and rehabilitation. The base stone for the project was placed on April 28, and the renewal work is quickly progressing. In three months, the center is expected to be equipped with ramps, accessible bathrooms, hospital beds and other facilities adapted to people with disabilities, MLA said. The estimated cost of the project is 20 Lakh, which will be addressed through donors.Access to adequate medical care was a long data challenge in Byndoor. For emergencies, from snakes to trauma, residents have to travel to UDUPI. Patients with dialysis, in particular, suffered the worst part of the limited local infrastructure, often traveling to Manipal, Ajjarkad or Kundapur for regular treatment, facing long waiting and a significant physical and financial tension. However, it was only recently that the Kasturba hospital expanded its services by launching emergency care, dialysis and specialized consultations at the Anjali hospital in Byndoor.
