The actor born in Nottingham, George Robinson, an appeal ambassador to the project, described the “incredible” garden.
He was patient in the column injury unit for almost eight months in 2015, after suffering a serious spinal injury during a rugby game when he was 17 years old, which left him quadriplegic.
He said: “When you spend so much time in the hospital, you are focused on your physical rehabilitation, but as the days go by, you realize that you also need that mental rehabilitation, sometimes that clinical environment is not the best place for that.
“You can feel separate from the world, but a garden connects you.”
He added that space would give patients a “sense of purpose” by participating in activities such as gardening.
