On August 13, 2022, at 6:33 a.m., State Police responded to an Amish Buggy/Car crash that occurred on County Route 15 close to Honey Flats Highway within the city of Orleans, Jefferson County.
The preliminary investigation has revealed a 2017 Ford Edge, operated by Troy J. Weaver, age 29, from Lafargeville, NY, was touring south on Couty Route 15 when he crested a hill and struck the rear of a horse-drawn Amish Buggy, operated by Samuel A. Hostetler, age 39, from Lafargeville, NY.
Mr. Weaver was not injured within the crash. Mr. Hostetler and a passenger, 21-year-old Mose Hostetler, have been each ejected from the buggy. Samuel Hostetler was transported by ambulance to Samaritan Medical Heart after which transferred to Upstate College Hospital in Syracuse with a extreme spinal cord injury and was listed in essential situation. Mose Hostetler was transported to Samaritan Medical Heart, the place he was handled for non-life-threatening accidents. The horse was killed within the crash.
Mr. Weaver was issued a ticket for failure to make use of due care when approaching a horse, a violation.
