After a devastating work accident he left Mgarivali Shiburi with injuries that alter life, the prediction was serious. They told him that he would never walk again. But where others saw limits, Shiburi chose to see the possibility.
Now, after months of intense effort, personal determination and the support of the rehabilitation of Life Riverfield Lodge Rehabilitation Rehabilitation team, Shiburi is challenging the probabilities and preparing to take his first steps outside the facilities and a new chapter of life.
“My life was great,” he shared. “I already had plans for the year and I had already begun to achieve the few goals I had established for me. The injury has affected me in many ways. I felt as if my world was closing me. I had lost the will to live.”

That day, Shiburi said that a door at his workplace falls back, which left him with an injury to his spinal cord. It is something that you will never forget. “When they told me that I would never walk again, my heart really broke. Thinking about my children and their needs. The thoughts of living my life in a wheelchair were unbearable. Then, at the time they told me about rehabilitation, I felt saying that I still had the opportunity to fight for my normal life. So I took that as motivation.
Shiburi has a lot to thank, especially the way he was treated in the hospital. He said everyone has played an important role in their progress. “The nurses took care of me very well to make sure I felt comfortable and making sure I had what I needed. The doctor reviewed me daily and made sure to have all the medications I needed. Physiotherapy and occupational therapy pushed me, they always encouraged me to go to the gym.”

He said that he is now leaving the Medical Care Center with a renewed hope, ready to claim his life and pursue the objectives that he is established for himself. “I would like to tell anyone who faces a similar challenge. Keep your head up and do not surrender. Sometimes it may seem useless to fight, since it is possible that I do not see the results at the beginning, but trust me, every time you strive, the results begin to develop. You only need to continue pressing until they become visible.
“I really hope that my story inspires others so that they believe that there is still life after every setback. While you are still alive, you can always recover your life. I think I already have most of my life. I am using a walker now, but I think that in the near future I will not need it.”
