Washington company recalled pet foods in the middle of the ongoing bird flu blasts.
On March 1, Wild Coast Raw of Olympia, Washington, recalled his frozen empty free cock formula raw pet food for cats, according to an announcement of March 1st of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The product could potentially contain the very pathogenic aviation influenza (HPAI) H5N1, the statement warned. Animals that eat contaminated food can contract the virus.

The announcement comes days after the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) has warned pets owners that at least two domestic, indoor cats proved positive for the HPAI stretch of bird flu.
“One of the cats was euthanized by the severity of the disease,” the WSDA stated in the announcement of February 26th. “The second cat is treated by Veterinary.”

“This is a difficult situation -we love our pets, and it’s devastating when they get sick,” WSDA -field veterinary Dr. Zac Turner said. “If your cat shows symptoms, consult a vet as quickly as possible.”
Owners of pets whose animals have eaten any of the remembered products, must monitor some symptoms of bird flu, including fever, lethargy, low appetite, reddish or swollen eyes, unloading of the eyes and nose, difficulty of breathing and neurological signs such as tremors, rigid body movements, catch, lack of coordination or blindness.

Pets with these symptoms should be seen from veterinary.
“It was seen that cats had previously been infected with bird flu by alleged contact with infected birds,” David J. Cennimo, MD, professor of infectious diseases at Rutgers Nov -Jerseyerzeja Medical School, told Fox News Digital.

“More recently, ingestion of raw foods that have been made with chickens or other birds that have been infected with aviation flu, have resulted in cats infections. This is why raw food presents some danger and should be recalled if contaminated with aviation flu.”
There were no cases of infections delivered by cooked bird products, Cennimo noted, “So these remain safe for pets as well as humans.”

There were no reports of people contracting bird flu after handling raw pet foods, but there is the potential for delivery if the virus enters the eyes, nose or mouth, the FDA warned.
To prevent this, the agency recommends that people wash their hands after handling the raw product and healing contact surfaces such as boards, refrigerators, bowls or utensils.
